This is an authentic Tribal Handwoven rug made by Tekkeh tribe in Afghanistan. The Turkman Tekkeh Tribe’s origin is nomadic; but in recent decades they have settled in villages in Afghanistan and near the Persian border. One of the main characteristics of Turkman rugs is wide borders and repeating geometric inner symbols called “Gul”.
This particular vintage rug has full wool pile on wool foundation. She is 50-60 years old and in excellent condition. The field has all-over Gul design and is decorated with geometric traditional patterns in between the Gul motives. The stunning borders complete the design beautifully. She has an adorable, embroidered stripe kilim attached to the end of the fringes. The main color is tomato red with latte highlights and there are color changes within the field called “Abrash” which comes from different batches of wool and organic dyes. This results in stunning stripes of different tones in one color.
Vintage Turkman rugs are ideal for Bohemian living areas, rustic farmhouse or new county house and will add history for any living area.
